In conjunction with the theatrical release of Kubo and the Two Strings, I collaborated with Assembly, a production company commissioned to develop a promotional game tied to the film’s marketing campaign. My primary responsibility was architecting and implementing the administrative backend system designed to track user gameplay progressions, points, and remove users who cheated from the top scorers billboard.
This monitoring infrastructure proved essential to the campaign’s integrity, as the top 250 performers would receive the limited-edition Kubo + Air Jordan XV collaborative footwear as a prize. The admin app was built using Python using the Django Rest Framework, incorporating recorded gameplay footage, comprehensive anti-cheat algorithms, and secure storage of user contact information necessary for prize fulfillment.
A dedicated auditing team would access the admin site and conduct thorough reviews of high-scoring sessions, implementing verification protocols to ensure competitive fairness and prevent exploitation of potential vulnerabilities in the gameplay mechanics.
